Birds

There is an industrious bird family living in this birdhouse. They've lived there since last year. I was always taught that all birds migrate or head south for the winter but this just isn't so. Many birds make a great attempt to rough it out during the winter. Maybe they've changed their migratory patterns because the winters of late have become more temperate. Not so this year! The day snow was predicted, these little brownish gray birds, wrens I think, were wildly gathering something or other and bringing it into the house just like people were running to the supermarket. Perhaps they now regret staying here instead of going to a warmer place. I hope they survive. Watching birds is a worthwhile activity. I am aware of a First Grade Curriculum that involves making birdhouses and studying birds for half of the year and for the other half, they learn about dinosaurs because birds and dinosaurs are possibly related.
